Problem:

Unable to open a drive like C or D in My computer by double click, instead an “Open with” window is displayed to select suitable software.

What to do?

This problem mostly caused by viruses. To troubleshoot follow these easy steps.

1. Right click the drive and select open or explore, if still not possible, then in My computer click “Folders” to list all drives and folders, click drive C and you can view the contents at right side.
2. Go to Tools menu and select Folder options, View tap, double click “Hidden Files and Folders” and select “Show Hidden Files and Folders”.
3. Now you can see a file called “Autorun.info” under the drive directly as in the figure, delete this file.
4. Restart the PC.
   
   By these short steps you can now open the drive by double click.

    

   Note1: If step 2 could not be performed and you unable to see the hidden files and folders then this is another problem and you need to troubleshoot “Show Hidden Files and Folders”. Please refer to the related article.

    

   Note2: In some cases you may not able to see the “autorun.info” file even by enabling “Show Hidden Files and Folders”. In this case open “Run” window and type cmd, then type the following command. (Note that c is the drive name)

    

   del c:\autorun.* /f/s/q/a
