What is the Bluetooth

 By: A. Awadhi

It is a wireless connection between various types of devices such as mobile phones & PC’s used to transfer voice, data..etc. The communication could be point to point or point to multipoint. However, in case of point to multipoint, one of the devices will act as master and other will be salves.

Here are some characteristic of the Bluetooth.

  • Operating frequency: RF 2.4 GHz (ISM range)
  • Low power consumption.
  • Distance: 100 m.
  • Data rate:
    • asymmetric mode: 721/57.6 Kbit/s
    • symmetric mode: 432.6 Kbit/s both ways

Bluetooth uses a frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technique, it is a technique that transmission jumps from one frequency to another in random patterns, and this avoids radio modules interference from other signals. Spectrum spreading is accomplished by frequency hopping up to 1600 hops per second on 79 channels between 2.402 GHz and 2.480 GHz.

The Bluetooth specification calls for devices to connect in an ad-hoc fashion into small Bluetooth networks called piconets. These piconets provide a bubble of connectivity around the user and are the basis for creating a personal area network.
